    What is an off-grid solar inverter

    In recent decades, many homeowners and business owners have switched to solar power systems, especially to the off-grid solar system, the most common type. The off-grid solar inverter is one of the key components in the off-grid system.

    As the name implies, off the grid, off-grid solar inverters are the inverter for solar panels which can operate independently. This type of inverter normally does not connect to the utility. It needs power from the batteries.

    How to determine inverter size

    Firstly, consider the size of a solar array. Because solar inverter converts DC electricity coming from the array, it needs to have the capacity to handle all the power the array produces.

    The size of the PV inverter should be similar to the DC rating of the solar array. The ratio is typically not higher than 1.55. The majority of installations will have a ratio between 1.15 to 1.25; For example, if the solar array is 5 kW with a 5000 W inverter, the array-to-inverter ratio is 1. If you install the same-sized array with a 4000 inverter, the ratio is 1.25.

    The on-grid solar inverter does not need additional batteries, while the off-grid solar inverter needs.

    On-grid solar inverters can be directly connected to the utility, while off-grid solar inverters cannot.
